Daily S.O.A.P. Prompts

S – What verse stands out to me today?

O – What is God revealing about Jesus?

A – How should this change my life today?

P – What is my prayer in response?

Scripture

(John 13:34-35, NLT) 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

Observation

• I notice the language of “new” in this passage. It really is an expanding of an old commandment. Jesus is simplifying the commandments of old. It reminds me of the greatest commandments that Jesus speaks about. We are to love God and love people.

• Our motivation to love is because he first loved us. I am to love my other because Jesus loved me first.

• As I love like Jesus loved, people will know we are his disciples.

Application

• I love because Jesus loved me first.

• My love is proof of my relationship with Jesus.

Prayer

God of love. Thank you for loving me first. While I was yet a sinner, you died for me. I didn’t desire it, but you loved me still. Help me, each and every day to love like you loved. Give me the strength to love those who don’t deserve it. May people see the way I love others and be drawn to you.
