O – What is God revealing about Jesus?

A – How should this change my life today?

P – What is my prayer in response?

Scripture

(John 17:20-23, NLT) 20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. 22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

Observation

  • Jesus is not only praying for his current disciples, but he is also praying for his future disciples as well. As Jesus says, “all who will ever believe…”

  • Jesus’ prayer is the same for these future disciples as it is his current disciples. He is specifically praying for unity. He is praying that they will be one with each other just like the Father and Jesus are one. They exist in perfect unity, so Jesus is praying the same for his current and future disciples.

  • The disciples of Jesus are given the “glory” that the Father gave to Jesus.

Application

  • Jesus has given the glory to us so that we may be one just like the Father and Jesus are one.

  • Unity is so important that Jesus decided to pray for us to have it after his is gone.

  • We can experience the perfect unity that exists in the Trinity.

  • The unity speaks to the world about the love God has for them.

Prayer

Father God, send your glory! May your glory stir the people and draw more and more to your love. I desire to experience the perfect unity of the Trinity in my life, my family, and the church. Our love power would be unstoppable. Help me to live at peace with everyone and fight for unity in the church. As I live this way, please command a blessing on my life so that I can be a blessing to everyone that I meet. In Jesus' name, amen!
