Scripture

(John 16:12-15, NLT) 12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

Observation

• Jesus says he has much more to tell them.

• I notice that Jesus limits what he tells his disciples because they don’t have the capacity to “bear” it now. 

• The Spirit of truth will guide us into all truth. 

• The Holy Spirit only speaks what he has heard from the Father and the Son. 

• At some point, the Holy Spirit is going to tell the disciples about the future. 

Application

• If we aren’t ready to hear it, God won’t share it. 

• All truth is available from the Spirit of truth. 

• The Holy Spirit will tell us about the future. 

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be my helper. I need all the help I can get. I desire to know everything you want to share with me. Lord, I am listening. Thank you for loving me enough not to share things I am not ready for at this point. Increase my capacity so that I can receive all you want to share with me. In Jesus' name, amen!
