Scripture

(John 14:1-6, NLT) “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Observation

  • Jesus is encouraging his disciples, in this difficult time, to trust in God and him.

  • There is more than enough room in God’s house for us, and Jesus is the way to get there.

  • Thomas is confused about how to get to where Jesus is going. He is still only seeing the way as a place or destination. Jesus clarifies and explains that it is a place, but it is primarily a person.

  • Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

  • There is no other way to get to the way. Jesus is the only way to God.

Application

  • In a world filled with paths, Jesus makes it clear He is the only way, the only truth, and the life.

  • I have a home with Jesus. Nothing can take that from me.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, you are the only way! Thank you for revealing this to me. Help me to proclaim it and live in this important truth. When there is trouble in my life, I will choose to trust you. Give me the wisdom to come to you when things get difficult. You are the way to abundant life. Help me to follow the path that leads to life. In Jesus' name, amen!
