Scripture
(John 9:8-12, NLT) 8 His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some said he was, and others said, “No, he just looks like him!” But the beggar kept saying, “Yes, I am the same one!” 10 They asked, “Who healed you? What happened?” 11 He told them, “The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see!” 12 “Where is he now?” they asked. “I don’t know,” he replied.
Observation
The “blind” beggar is no longer blind. He is never given a name in the gospel other than his condition.
He is able to see, and people are trying to figure out how this is possible. Some don’t even believe he is the guy they knew.
He self-identifies to the people asking the questions.
The healed man doesn’t know how it happened, he just knows that Jesus was the one who put mud on his eyes and told him to wash in the pool.
They are trying to find Jesus and the healed man doesn’t know where he is, but he does know that he used to be blind and now he can see.
Application
What we were no longer defines us.
My condition isn’t my identity.
I don’t always understand “how”, but I always know “who”.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for being our healer. So often the world tries to define us by our condition, but you aren’t bound by these physical limitations. My identity is found in you. I am a son of the Most High God. I stand on this truth, not just what I see. If there is any place that I can’t see, then bring healing so that I can see whatever you want me to see. In Jesus’ name, amen!
