Scripture
(Matthew 9:35-38, NLT) 35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
Observation
▪ Jesus often taught in the synagogues.
▪ While in these religious places, he would announce the Good News about the Kingdom and heal “every kind” of disease and illness.
▪ Jesus had compassion on the lost. He saw them as confused and helpless, in need of a shepherd.
▪ I notice that Jesus tells his disciples that the “harvest is great, but the workers are few.”
▪ We are called to pray for more workers to be sent into the fields so that more harvest can be harvested.
Application
▪ Compassion for the lost leads to a desire to help them and not judge them.
▪ I will pray for the lost and for more workers to bring in the harvest.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving us a model for ministry. You were moved with compassion for the lost and broken. You saw them as confused and helpless. Help me to be moved with compassion for the lost just like you. Help me to see their confusions and bring clarity. Help me to see their helplessness and bring help. In Jesus’ name, amen!
