Daily S.O.A.P. Prompts

S – What verse stands out to me today?

O – What is God revealing about Jesus?

A – How should this change my life today?

P – What is my prayer in response?

Scripture

(Matthew 28:16-20, LEB) 16 So the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated for them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.”

Observation

• I notice that there are only “eleven” disciples.

• The disciples go to the place Jesus told them to go in Galilee. The place was “designated” for them by Jesus.

• Jesus appeared before them, and they worshipped him.

• Matthew tells us that some doubted that it was him. We know of Thomas, but it appears there were more.

• Jesus tells the disciples that he has “all authority” to command and empower them to advance the mission of Jesus in the earth.

• He tells them to GO and make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them, and that he will be with them until the end of the age.

• I notice the use of trinitarian language (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).

Application

• God has commanded me, as a disciple, to (1) go, (2) baptize, and (3) teach until the end of the age.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, you won the victory for all of us through your death and resurrection. As your disciple, I am commanded and empowered to advance your mission. Help me, each and every day, to participate in your evangelistic mission. I will go when you say go. I will share the message of Jesus everywhere I can. Help me live fearlessly so more people can hear and believe. In Jesus’ name, amen!
