Why We Believe

Daily S.O.A.P. Prompts

S – What verse stands out to me today?

O – What is God revealing about Jesus?

A – How should this change my life today?

P – What is my prayer in response?

Scripture

(John 20:30-31, NLT) 30 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

Observation

  • The disciples saw. They literally saw Jesus do miracles. They actually saw Jesus do many signs and wonders. Not all of those are recorded by John in this gospel.

  • John gives us the purpose of the book. He wrote his gospel so people would believe.

  • I notice that John specifically uses the word “continue” to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. This is not just written to the future disciples but to the current disciples as well.

  • Our belief leads to life by the power of his name.

Application

  • I continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. As a result of that belief, I have life by the power of that name!

Prayer

Jesus, Messiah, Son of God, I believe you are who you say you are, have done what you say you have done, and will do what you say you will do. I receive you fully and all the life and power that comes with knowing you. In Jesus' name, amen!
