Scripture

(John 17:6-10, NLT) 6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, 8 for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me. 9 “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. 10 All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.

Observation

  • I notice the repetition of the terms "give," "gave," and "given" in these verses.

  • Everything Jesus has and has given is a gift from God.

  • The disciples have accepted and believe in Jesus.

  • Jesus is specifically praying for his disciples and not the world.

  • The disciples belong to the Father because they belong to Jesus.

  • The bringing of glory is reiterated.

Application

  • Everything we have is a gift from the Father.

  • Jesus intercedes for me.

  • I belong to Jesus.

  • I am called to bring Jesus glory.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I believe everything comes from you. Everything that I have is a gift from you. Thank you for giving me the gift of salvation. I love knowing that your Son Jesus is praying for me. Knowing this gives me strength. Help me to glorify you in all that I say and do today. Come, Holy Spirit, and fill me once again. In Jesus' name, amen!
