Scripture
(John 12:20-26, NLT) 20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. 23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
Observation
Even the Greeks are interested in meeting Jesus. Jesus stays focused on his purpose. He tells his disciples that “the hour has come” for the Son of Man to be glorified.
The grain must die for a harvest to come. Jesus is the grain, and the harvest is humanity.
Jesus is explaining the cost of following him. The person who loves his life will lose it, and the person who hates his life will gain eternal life.
Jesus calls his disciples to serve and follow where he is going. If they do, then God (Father) will honor them.
Application
Jesus is laser-focused on the hour at hand and will not be distracted.
Serving and following Jesus is costly.
There must be a death for there to be a harvest.
God honors those who willingly follow Jesus no matter the cost.
Prayer
Dear Lord, you are the great I Am. You are the one who honors those that serve and follow Jesus with their lives. Thank you for creating a pathway for humanity to be with you for eternity. I recognize that there is a cost to following you. Help me to always be willing to pay the price, even if it cost me my life. Help me to always be laser focused on the purpose you give me that I may honor you always. In Jesus name, amen!
