Scripture

John 3:19-21 (LEB) 19 And this is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who practices evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, in order that his deeds may be revealed, that they are done in God.

Observation

• The judgement theme is carried over from yesterday. The judgement is because the people loved the darkness and evil.

• John is once again contrasting the light and the darkness. The darkness is what people loved. The light exposes the darkness.

• “But” is used to communicate contrast between those that practice the truth and those who do not.

• Those that practice the truth come to the light. Or as the NLT reads in verse 21, “But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

Application

• The light of Jesus in me exposes the darkness in me.

• When I do what is right, light comes to my life, and others can see what God is doing.

Prayer

Jesus Christ, Son of God, you are the light. Your light shines in the darkness and exposes all untruth. Help me see what you see, and allow others to see what they need to see as I live according to your Word. Amen!
